errr I think my brains just fused.
Limit freighters to below 0.5. ????
Let me get this straight. In the cradle of civilisation with it¦s well travelled routes you want people to be forced to move all the stuff required to build some pretty huge nay massively indeed stupendously massivly huge constructions, in teeny tiny industrials. Industrials btw which can fit small weapons, shields etc, and therefore have a tiny measure of defence capability.
You are willing however to force corporations to risk multi billion isk investments by having them move said mountains of equipment through the vast tracts of lawless space in behemoths which, when all¦s said and done have got to be the Pirates Biggest Wettest Dream Ever. Unarmed and moving slower than a scotsman when it¦s his turn to buy a round. Why not just fit a remote detonation device to the damn things and be done with it. Save the poor pirates from having to slow down long enough to shoot at it before they scream on past at a major percentage of the speed of light. And before you say ESCORT THE DAMN THING, let me point out that there is no point. Escort and freighter warp in to a pirate camp. Pirate does a double take spills his bovril all over his copy of "What Yarr!!", locks the freighter busy occluding his view of the sun and atomises it, then flees before the mighty, mighty though impotent, wrath of the escort. OK he didn¦t get the loot, but he just cost your corp 1.7 (maybe more) bill. Is the Pirate (or opposing corp) unhappy? Hell no, theres a kill that will be bragged about in all the shady watering holes across known space.
Freighters are screwing up NPC routes?. Unlucky. Adapt. Small traders are always losing out to larger more organised ones. Thats the same for life, love, and making money in the real world. Find a niche market, one that freighters won¦t want.
If an individual is sucking up all the fish eggs or inflatable dolls in your region, decalre war on his corp and vaporise his chuffing freighter. Do that a time or two ( heh probably once would be enough at 1.7bill a pop) and he¦ll move on.
The only real problem I see is players in NPC corps trading with freighters. I have no answer to that part of the problem. Cant war dec em, cant reduce thier freighters to a glowing cloud of atomised asteroid guts. Part of me says dont let people in NPC corps own freighters, then the other major part of me says STFU; if they can afford it they should be allowed to fly it.
Adapt, overcome or go play frogger.
